Service Committee
The Service Committee is one of the most active committees in the Lodge. They coordinate all the service projects of the Lodge. They are also charged with the collection and reporting of the service hours of our members. This has been a manual system until this year with the implementation of the web site reporting system. Listed below are several of our major service projects each year. ![]() Spring and Fall Fellowship Weekends are held in May and August each year and are usually attended by over 200 brothers. We typically complete over 1500 to 2000 hours of service preparing Camp Alexander, our Council Camp near Lake George Colorado, to open and close for the Summer Season. We set up 150 tents in all the Troop sites and staff row. We paint signs, clean and build new trails as needed. Last year we cleared over 30 truck loads of underbrush drastically reducing the fire threat.
Food Drive for Slavation Army The Ha-Kin-Skay-A-Ki Lodge has joined the Council in supporting two major council service projects. We manned 6 locations for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Bell Ringing project on December 10th, 2005. We encourage our members to support their unit in sponsoring a location. This project will count as community service hours for the Leadership in Service Award. We have already committed to supporting this great service project in 2006. Those interested should contact Mike Caruthers at 591-6505 or email him here. If there is a youth and adult who would like to be chairman or adviser for this special project, contact Austin Haller, the Lodge Chief or Mike Caruthers the Lodge Adviser.
![]() Flag Retirements are held during the Spring and Fall Fellowships and at other times as needed. The Lodge collects old and worn out US Flags at the Council Service Center. We then retire them one at a time in a respectful ceremony. To date the lodge has retired over 3,000 flags.
Cub Scout Weekend Camps are held each fall during September and October. The lodge provides the complete staff to run the program for some 200 Cub Scouts and their parents at Camp Alexander. We are going to staff the Webelos II Weekend again this year. The dates for this service project is September 8-10,2006. Other Service to the Council and the Units in the Council include Webelos Crossover Ceremonies and Eagle Scout Ceremonies. In the past, we also have done Stream Cleanups in the City of Colorado Springs Parks. Service Contact Information Service Chairman: OPEN Service Adviser: OPEN Email the Service Committee |
